OUR STORY
New Columbia Solar was founded in 2016 to serve the growing demand for clean energy in Washington, DC. After developing, building, and financing solar projects all over the world, the founders of our company came together to transform how the District of Columbia – one of the most visible, iconic, and influential cities in the world – is powered. New Columbia Solar is on a mission to make solar power a reality for our entire community.
Unlike many solar companies, New Columbia Solar finances, designs, installs, and maintains solar energy systems, which makes us a partner to our customers for the lifetime of our installations. We take pride in the clean energy community that we’ve built in the District and look forward to finding new ways of investing in our network of customers as it continues to grow.
Leadership
Mike Healy
Co-Founder & CEO
As the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of New Columbia Solar, Mike Healy has garnered a laudable reputation as a visionary entrepreneur and leader in the clean energy industry. Mike has been instrumental in developing business growth strategies from start-up level to maturity and has leveraged his position as a business leader and effective coalition builder to grow and improve the solar industry.
While leading New Columbia Solar, Mike serves in executive and advisory positions with the Chesapeake Solar and Storage Association (CHESSA), ConnectDER Inc., Renewables Forward, the Virginia Advanced Energy Industries Coalition, and was a founding member of Nextility, Inc.
Mike has a proven track record of developing a long-term strategy, implementing the tactics to maintain and execute that strategy, and delivering results. He has been an active advocate of renewable energy and clean power in environmental policies, which includes leading the advocacy efforts for the Clean Energy DC Act 2018 passed by the DC City Council to implement a 100% renewable energy target by 2032 and mandates zero-emissions public transportation by 2045. Mike hopes to see the District meet its goal of 100% renewable energy by 2032 through his efforts at New Columbia Solar.
Marco McClees
Chief Operating Officer
Marco joined NCS in late 2020 with over a decade of experience in the renewable energy sector representing both developers and financing parties on projects across the United States and internationally.
Prior to New Columbia Solar, Mr. McClees worked at Millbank and SunEdison, and more recently helped to support and build Ygrene Energy Fund’s national presence in energy efficiency upgrades and PACE financing.
Richard Reilly
Chief Financial Officer
Rich joined NCS in 2023 and oversees Finance Department.
Prior to New Columbia Solar, Rich worked at Greenleaf Energy Solutions, and also was on the founding team and later served as CFO of Verde Energy, where he helped lead the company from pre-revenue to over $250MM. Rich has well over a decade of CFO experience and a wide range of experience ranging from starts-up to large corporates, such as Unilever.
Alex Williams
General Counsel
Alex joined New Columbia Solar in June 2023 and manages and oversees the company’s legal functions as General Counsel.
Alex brings a diverse skill set to New Columbia Solar. He spent the first half of his career representing domestic and international companies in complex and high-stakes commercial and personal injury litigation before transitioning to a transactional practice representing the world’s largest financial institutions, commodity trading companies, energy marketers, developers, and other energy companies and investors in complex commodity and financing transactions covering the power and renewable energy sectors.
