Profitable Rooftop Leases Greenlit by MD Bill

We are thrilled to share that the Maryland legislature has recently passed a new bill, SB 783, named the Brighter Tomorrow Act which significantly increases the profitability of leasing a building’s rooftop for solar energy production.

However, there is a limited window of opportunity. Only the first 270 MWs of capacity will qualify for this increased multiplier which will go quickly. New Columbia Solar is moving swiftly to develop projects that can benefit from this incentive.

This new legislation allows small photovoltaic systems to apply a 1.5x multiplier to their Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs). This is a strategic move by Maryland lawmakers to incentivize solar developers, making it more feasible for groups like New Columbia Solar to offer attractive lease rates to property owners for their unused rooftop space.
